COULD YOUR 'MISSING DIAGNOSIS' BE CANDIDA?
“Candidiasis” is the medical term for Candida, an overgrowth of yeast in the body typically starting in the intestinal tract and then making its way throughout the other tissues in the body. Candida has become very problematic within our society and is often dubbed ‘the missing diagnosis’. It is an aggressive parasite that will upset internal balances and cause poor health if left unchecked. It attaches itself to your intestinal walls and can wreak havoc on your internal organs. It is estimated that almost everyone has, or can expect to have, a serious Candida infection at some point in their life.
If you have a healthy immune system then it will typically control the yeast levels in your body. However, certain circumstances can affect this and allow for an excessive yeast
overgrowth. These include:
*BIRTH CONTROL PILLS
*DIETS HIGH IN CARBOHYDRATES AND SUGAR
*YEAST AND YEAST PRODUCTS, AS WELL AS FERMENTED FOODS
*PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO ENVIRONMENTAL MOLDS
*ANTIBIOTICS and SULFA DRUGS
Yeasts are found in our air, food, and water, and enter the body through the mouth. If they are not destroyed by our immune system or the friendly bacteria in our bodies, they will
settle in and grow unchecked. They attach to our intestinal walls and start to reproduce. They then start to give off toxic wastes. The most significant waste product of yeast is
called ‘acetaldehyde’. This toxic substance can overwhelm the body tissues. It eventually turns into ethanol and then into alcohol by the liver. This can result in the feeling of being drunk, disoriented, and dizzy. It can mimic mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and even bi-polar symptoms. Acetaldehyde can cause extreme fatigue, reduced stamina, and mental confusion. I personally experienced some of these symptoms during my Candida infection and it wasn’t fun at all. See the
section for more information on my personal struggles with Candidiasis.
A SERIOUS PROBLEM
If not recognized and treated properly, a Candidiasis infection can result in a chronic ongoing infection which weakens the immune system. Even though this form of yeast is in all of us, it is still seen by the immune system as a foreign body that needs to be regulated. So, when overgrowth occurs, it stresses and weakens the immune system 24 hours a day in an attempt to regain control. It is believed that over time this can exhaust the immune system, predisposing an individual to more serious degenerative issues and diseases.
Individuals with Candidiasis present with a wide variety of symptoms varying in severity depending on the person. The resulting yeast toxins can cripple the immune system not only allowing a primary yeast infection to occur but also allowing secondary bacterial and viral infection as well. By Candida robbing the body of nutrition and poisoning the body’s tissues with toxins it can contribute directly or indirectly to the following list of health concerns:
- Allergies: airborne, food; hay fever
- Chronic Fatigue
- Headaches and migraines
- Poor nutrient absorption
- Neurological issues
- Emotional issues: depression, anti-social behaviour, mood swings, anxiety, irritability, suicidal tendencies
- Reproductive issues: endometriosis, PMS, menstrual problems, hormonal imbalances, vaginal yeast infection
- Respiratory issues: asthma
- Skin Conditions: rash and hives, dry skin and itching
- Hypoglycemia and diabetes
- Environmental Sensitivities: sensitivity to chemicals and perfume
- Bad breath & dry mouth
- Adrenal/thyroid failure
- Cold hands & feet
And the list goes on…
